ll of these guys deserved an Oscar: Jordan, Jay, Calvin, J. Edgar, Cobb, Teddy, Frank, Roger, Danny, Billy, Howard, Frank, Amsterdam, Richard, Louis, Jack, Hank, Romeu. Not to say the Academy Award Winners for Best Actor since 2000 haven´t been worthy, rather that Leo Di Caprio’s performances have always been brilliant.

Some of the movies he starred in were also Oscar worthy yet he lost out, year after year, to brilliant movies and actors.

But 2016 brought two things:

1) A character focused movie, tailor made for an Oscar winning performance, brilliantly delivered by Di Caprio. Not a brilliant movie in any measure bar his performance. Similarly, tremendous actors are on the Hollywood stage today, maybe in bigger number than ever before.

2) The weakest year in qualitative terms regarding movies. Great actors, good movies, but no GREAT movies. I dare say that all of the nominees for best movie wouldn’t have made the mark in 85 of the 88 years of Oscar history.

So, heads up Hollywood: you best start delivering movies worthy of your actors, or we’ll end up watching the Emmy Awards…!
